Stormwater Management System
Buchanan, New York
J. Robert Folchetti and Associates (JRFA) provided full consulting engineering services to LaFarge Gypsum for the planning, design, permitting, and construction of a Stormwater Management System at their Buchanan, New York facility.
Since the facility is located on the Hudson River, the NYSDEC had directed a stormwater management system capable of handling a 25-year storm event. As this appeared to be extremely conservative, LaFarge Gypsum retained JRFA to investigate possible alternatives.
Sampling revealed that a two-year storm event contained the bulk of the suspended solids. A preliminary design was prepared for the retention of the volume of a two-year storm event and treatment of up to a 25-year storm event on a flow-through basis. The NYSDEC approved the preliminary design; this process is estimated to have saved LaFarge Gypsum several million dollars.
The stormwater management system consists of a combination of pollution prevention measures and a stormwater treatment system. The system includes the following:
Engineering Report
- Stormwater monitoring program
- Stormwater runoff modeling
- Sediment transport modeling
